Script & Story training for Visions scheme.
Visions received a further boost with support from
The British Council in Lithuania.
While the five Yorkshire writer/directors are in Vilnius they will go through an intensive six-days of story and script teaching under the guiding supervision of Simon van der Borgh
"International screenwriting teacher Simon van der Borgh is leading
a series of workshops and masterclasses covering the key aspects
of the screenwriting tool-kit - story & structure, character
development, scene-writing, the short film, genre, and idea generation.
Using clips from existing British, European and American films, this stimulating, interactive
programme offers the chance for aspiring film-makers to acquire
some of the essential tools of the screenwriting business as
well as refreshing the skills of more experienced writers."
This added training opportunity has come about thanks to support from the Director of the British Council in Vilnius who has backed the project enabling the training element to go ahead.
In a spirit of collaboration and co-operation the five Lithuanian writer/directors and the five Yorkshire filmmakers will undergo first three intensive days working on existing film projects and collaborative ideas. Then the group will be broadened to include a wider selection of other Lithuanian writers, directors and producers as well as members of the general public who are keen to learn more about writing for film.
Peter Kershaw director of the Visions scheme writes:
"I've seen Simon at work lecturing at Leeds Metropolitan University which has an excellent reputation for producing outstanding screenwriters. Simon, who as well as being a writer is trained in the art of teaching screen writing to writers, is an electric teacher who I am sure will inspire and enthuse all those who get to attend his teaching in vilnius - it really is a great piece of luck to be able to get him across to teach story while we are in Vilnius."
